President Cyril Ramaphosa announced an eased restriction on Wednesday. His address follows a number of meetings of the Cabinet, the national coronavirus command Council and the presidential coordinating council.

Ramaphosa announced that cinemas, hair salons, casino’s and other’s would be allowed to open.

He said these industries employed well over 500,000 people and government had to think about these people and their livelihoods while saving lives.

The dates for the reopening of these sectors is yet to be announced.


The president also announced that South Africa now had 80,412 active COVID-19 cases, with 1,674 deaths.
