Yesterday reach the the ten years mark that the United Nations officially declared 18 July as Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela Day) and encouraged citizens all over the world to spend 67 minutes in the service of others on the new annual international day in honour of Mandela.
Mandela Day is not a public holiday, but a day to honour the legacy of South Africa’s former president Nelson Mandela, and his values, through volunteering and community service on his birthday.
Many took to social media to wish him a Tata Madiba happy birthday, others shared pictures taken while completing their Mandela Day activities.

Mmusi Maimane share his 67 minutes at a school in Bonteheuwel emphasizing the importance of quality education to remind us of one of Nelson Mandela’s values about “readers are leaders”.
