South African Edward Mothibi won the Comrades Marathon this year on just his second attempt and finished the race in just over 5 and a half hours. The 94th edition of the ultra-marathon spans 89km from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
Edward was overwhelmed when he crossed the finish line on Sunday.
“I am very happy. All I want to do is to thank the people who have helped me.”
Gerda Steyn also from South Africa broke the women’s Comrades Marathon record, stopping the clock at 5:58:53.
“I feel so blessed to stand here. I can’t believe the dream that came true today. I can only give all thanks to God.” She said.
Congratulations Mr Mothibi and Gerda Steyn for completing this years Comrades Marathon.
