New York City is on top of the list with a total wealth of US$3trn (R44.3trn), making the Big Apple the wealthiest city in the world. According to research by wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth and location analytics specialists Webster Pacific, New York City has more dollar billionaires (65) and millionaires (380 000) than any other city in the world. And it is home to the two largest stock exchanges in the world- the Dow Jones and NASDAQ. Tokyo in Japan is at second place on the list with it’s total wealth held in the city of about R36.88trn. In third place is San Francisco Bay area in the US, with total wealth held in the area of US$2.4 trillion.London takes fourth place. The total wealth held in the city R35.41trn. At fifth place is Beijing, the official capital of China, with the total wealth held in the city of R30.98trn. For the purposes of the research, the total wealth of a city is determined by wealthy individuals living in the city. It includes all their assets – property, cash, equities and businesses.
